BAUCHI — Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has declared his full support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s decision to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, describing the move as a step towards unity and stability within the party.
Mohammed, who also serves as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, revealed that he personally gave up his presidential ambition in the interest of party cohesion and national development.
Addressing journalists on Tuesday, the governor explained that the decision was a collective one reached after extensive consultations within the party’s hierarchy.
“I’m very satisfied with the resolution because I’m part of it — from the arrangement, strategy, and delivery,” Mohammed said.
According to him, the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State, reaffirmed PDP’s zoning formula by allocating party offices and the presidential ticket to the South, specifically the South-South region.
“It’s an all-inclusive decision so that we can have some sanity, understanding, and unity,” he noted.
Emphasizing that politics should transcend personal ambition, Mohammed urged Nigerians to view leadership as an act of service.
“Politics is not about personal interest; it’s about self-actualization within the framework of party decisions, manifesto, and national development. Everything is predicated on sacrifice, not interest. Power comes from God,” he stated.
The governor assured that PDP governors, the National Working Committee (NWC), and the Board of Trustees (BoT) remain committed to making the party attractive to Nigerians ahead of 2027, adding that the decision will open space for inclusiveness and aspirations across the country.
