MAKURDI — The Benue State House of Assembly has slammed a three-month suspension on its immediate past Speaker, Aondona Dajoh, over an alleged plot to impeach Governor Hyacinth Alia.
The decision was taken during Tuesday’s plenary following a motion moved by Terna Shimawua, representing Kyan State Constituency, and seconded by James Umoru of Apa Constituency.
Interestingly, Shimawua was among the lawmakers previously suspended by Dajoh before his resignation as Speaker last Friday.
Current Speaker, Alfred Berger, who presided over the session, reduced Dajoh’s suspension from six months to three months and passed the ruling without subjecting it to the usual votes.
In a related development, the Assembly also reversed its earlier decision and confirmed Timothy Yangien Ornguga as commissioner. Ornguga, a law lecturer at Benue State University, Makurdi, had been rejected under Dajoh’s leadership.
The latest twist deepens the political intrigues rocking the Assembly, which has been embroiled in power tussles since Alia assumed office.
