BREAKING: NCAA Summons Ibom Air Crew, Passenger Over Mid-Flight Controversy

ABUJA — The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has summoned Ibom Air cabin crew member, Juliana Edward, and passenger, Comfort Emmanson, for further investigations into the recent in-flight controversy that sparked debate across the aviation sector.

Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NCAA, Michael Achimugu, disclosed this on Tuesday during a question-and-answer session at the Emergency National Civil Aviation Security Committee and Stakeholders Meeting in Abuja.

“I have spoken with Ms. Emmanson this morning. We are also inviting the Ibom Air cabin crew for continued investigation on the incident. They will be here tomorrow,” Achimugu said.

He clarified that the aircraft’s pilot did not request security personnel upon landing in Lagos, as the matter appeared resolved during the flight. However, Emmanson, who reportedly visited the restroom after touchdown, was the last to disembark.

Achimugu assured that the NCAA is determined to establish the full facts of the matter.

In his reaction, Senator Buhari Abdulfatai, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, linked the rising cases of unruly behavior in the sector to a “general decline in discipline” among passengers, crew, and airport workers.

Meanwhile, the NCAA has issued a new directive mandating that all mobile phones must be completely switched off during take-off and landing — a move believed to be part of efforts to tighten safety and orderliness.

The controversy surrounding Emmanson has continued to attract national attention, with industry stakeholders calling for stricter enforcement of aviation regulations.
