ABUJA — Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that no amount of prayers or pressure will sway him from carrying out his duties diligently and in the best interest of the government.
Wike made the remarks on Tuesday during the commissioning of the rehabilitated Phase 2 Water Treatment Plant at Lower Usuma Dam, in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council.
The outspoken minister recounted an incident shortly after his appointment by President Bola Tinubu, when he was advised to bring pastors to pray before assuming office due to alleged “spiritual activities” tied to the position.
“When I came to this place as a Minister, the first day I was to resume, people said, ‘go and bring pastors to pray because a lot of things have been done here.’ I said okay, I went there and nothing,” Wike narrated.
He stressed that while he respects prayer, it cannot be used as a tool to derail his commitment to good governance.
“I will do my work and nobody can influence me. If you like, pray for 24 hours, it will not work. If it’s right, it will work. But if it’s for your own selfish interest, for the government not to move forward, it will not work,” he said firmly.
Wike added that his focus remains on delivering results, regardless of attempts to distract or sway him.
“I will do what is right. If you like, cry from morning till night, it won’t change anything,” he declared.
