Wike Kicks Off Fresh Round of FCT Projects, Commissions Rehabilitated Water Plant in Bwari

ABUJA — The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has launched another wave of project commissioning and flag-offs across Abuja, beginning with the rehabilitation of key water facilities.

This comes barely weeks after Wike rounded off a marathon 16-day commissioning spree on July 3, 2025.

According to his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the Minister will today, Tuesday, August 19, commission the fully rehabilitated Phase 2 Water Treatment Plant at Lower Usuma Dam in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council.

In continuation of the projects, Wike will tomorrow flag off the construction and expansion of water supply to FCT satellite towns, starting with Lot 1 in Bwari Township. On Thursday, Lot 2 covering Karu town and its environs in Abuja Municipal Area Council will also be launched.

The development builds on the Greater Abuja Water Supply Project, which was commissioned on June 16, 2025.

Wike had earlier revealed that the FCT administration secured a new agreement during President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 visit to China to extend water supply to satellite communities such as Bwari, Kubwa, and Karu. He assured that procurement processes for these extensions are nearing completion and pledged timely project delivery.
