Negotiating With Bandits Is Un-Islamic and Doomed to Fail — Shinkafi Warns

Dr Sani Shinkafi

The Executive Director of the Patriots for the Advancement of Peace and Social Development, Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, has cautioned against engaging in peace talks with armed bandits, insisting such negotiations are both un-Islamic and futile.

Speaking on Arise Television on Wednesday, Shinkafi said the North-West has suffered over a decade of relentless attacks from bandits, warning that any agreement with them would inevitably collapse.

“Any peace deal you’ve entered with armed bandits will fail woefully. These armed bandits are not reliable, they are not honest, they are not sincere,” he stated.

Citing past examples, Shinkafi noted that similar peace initiatives in Zamfara under previous administrations, as well as those by former Katsina State governor Aminu Bello Masari, had all failed.

“Whatever peace and reconciliation you enter into with them, at the end of some period of time, it will collapse,” he said.

He further argued that there is no basis in Islamic teaching for negotiating with criminals of such nature.

“So in accordance with Islamic teachings and tradition, in all the scriptures of the Holy Quran, there was no provision for going into a peace dialogue with armed bandits or terrorists. There was no such thing,” Shinkafi asserted.
