SDP Ogun Warns Jimi Lawal: “Stop Parading Yourself as Our Member”

ABEOKUTA — The Ogun State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has issued a stern warning to Jimi Lawal, a former aide to ex-Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, ordering him to immediately stop parading himself as a member of the party.

Addressing journalists at a press conference in Abeokuta on Monday, the party’s Deputy State Chairman, Augustus Olushola, accused Lawal of multiple violations and anti-party activities, insisting he is not a registered or recognized SDP member.

Olushola alleged that Lawal has continued to present himself as part of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition in Ogun State, despite clear directives from the SDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) that the party remains a separate entity with no merger or coalition agreement with the ADC.

“Despite this, it has come to our attention that Hon. Jimi Adebisi Lawal continues to present himself as a member of the ADC coalition in Ogun State,” Olushola said. “He has also been issuing SDP membership cards illegally to his ADC members without the authority of the state organ of the party. This we consider as illegal possession of party cards.”

The party further accused Lawal of breaching the SDP constitution by failing to pay membership dues — a mandatory requirement for joining the party — thereby rendering him ineligible to represent the SDP at any level.

“With this, he is impersonating as a member of our party. He is not qualified to or recognized to represent the SDP at all levels,” Olushola declared.

The warning comes amid growing political realignments in Ogun State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
