Human rights activist and presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has taken a swipe at former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, over his recent claim that he could end corruption in Nigeria within one month if elected president.
Amaechi, a former Rivers State governor, made the remark during a discussion on X Space — a statement that has since stirred controversy.
Reacting in a video posted by SaharaReporters, Sowore accused Amaechi of political hypocrisy, pointing out that the ex-minister had held top positions for decades without stamping out corruption.
“Amaechi said he would end corruption in one month. This is someone who was Speaker for eight years, governor for another eight years — that’s 16 years — and Minister for eight years, making it 24 years,” Sowore said. “If you deduct 24 from 60, what do you say? A fool at 40 is a fool forever.”
He accused the political class of deceiving Nigerians and urged youths to stop falling for empty promises.
“They are all deceiving you. Yes, we have alternatives and we will participate, but we are not bound by one alternative because we don’t have time on our side,” Sowore said.
The African Action Congress leader also stressed the urgency of political change, warning that time is running out for the country’s younger generation to take charge.
“You might be youth today but not youth forever,” he said. “There are some Nigerian youths that when I see them — I’m 54 — they tell me they are 24 and I ask, are we the same age? Because the system has made them not look their age anymore.”
