LAGOS — Nigerian telecommunications giant 9mobile has officially rebranded to T2, marking the beginning of a new chapter in its evolution and signalling a renewed push to lead in innovation, customer experience, and digital lifestyle solutions.
Speaking at the official launch in Lagos, Chief Executive Officer Obafemi Banigbe described the transformation as more than a cosmetic change.
“This is not just a logo change — it’s a total evolution of who we are, why we exist, and how we deliver value,” Banigbe said. “T2 represents our next chapter… a symbol of our renewed commitment to innovation, resilience, and a deepened focus on customer experience.”
The rebrand is part of a four-phase recovery roadmap — Stabilisation, Modernisation, Transformation, and Growth — initiated after the 2023 acquisition of 9mobile by Lighthouse Telecoms, led by investor Thomas Etuh. Since the takeover, the company has revitalized its leadership, expanded its network through a groundbreaking infrastructure-sharing deal with MTN Nigeria, and strengthened its competitive position in the telecoms market.
Chairman of Emerging Markets Telecommunications Ltd, Thomas Etuh, described the moment as a “rebirth” for the brand.
“Today marks a new beginning. It was faith and love for country that prompted my foray into acquiring the 9mobile business,” Etuh said. “To our amazing customers, I know our challenges have impacted you… but we are rising together again and reclaiming lost grounds.”
Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, praised T2’s bold vision, urging that the rebrand must reflect genuine service excellence.
“My message to T2 is simple — let this rebrand be more than a change of colours or a new logo. Let it be a renewed commitment to innovation and service to millions of Nigerians,” Tijani said.
Also speaking, Lagos State Government Secretary, Barr. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, who represented Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, welcomed T2’s mission, noting its alignment with the state’s digital economy ambitions.
“T2 has come at the right time,” she said. “Its focus on digital innovation aligns seamlessly with Lagos State’s vision for inclusive and transformative growth.”
The T2 transition will roll out in phases to ensure seamless service continuity while introducing customers to the new brand identity.
