Lere Olayinka, media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at former Kogi West Senator, Dino Melaye, following the latter’s recent admission of regret over supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Melaye, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had expressed remorse for backing the APC in the past, stating during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today:
“I regret supporting APC. I was blind then, now I can see.”
The former lawmaker, who defected to the APC in 2015 before returning to the PDP ahead of the 2019 general elections, said the country’s situation under the APC-led government has become increasingly precarious.
Reacting to Melaye’s comments, Olayinka took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where he mocked the former senator’s political decisions and performance in the 2023 Kogi governorship election, in which Melaye was the PDP candidate.
He wrote:
“Dino Melaye: ‘I regret supporting APC. I was blind then, now I can see.’
Me: Good morning this evening, former blind man Dino Melaye, the tree climber.
But was it the blindness that made you not vote in your own governorship election? Abi how person go dey house dey do social media content and not vote on the day of his own election?”
Olayinka’s comments appear to reference widespread criticisms following the Kogi election, where Melaye reportedly failed to vote and was more active online than at the polling stations.
Melaye has not yet responded to the remarks.
