The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has issued a strong advisory to Nigerian citizens, urging strict compliance with U.S. visa regulations and travel protocols, following concerns raised by the Government of the United States.
In a statement released on Tuesday and signed by the NCS National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, the service cautioned Nigerians against engaging in activities that are inconsistent with the stated purpose of their U.S. visa classification. The agency emphasized that misuse of visas could result in serious consequences, including visa revocation.
“Security vetting for visa applicants does not end upon entry into the United States,” the statement read. “U.S. authorities continuously monitor the activities of visa holders, and any violation of immigration laws, import/export regulations, or other legal provisions may lead to sanctions.”
The NCS also reminded travellers of the legal requirement to declare any amount of cash exceeding $10,000 or its equivalent at all points of entry and exit. Passengers were further advised to ensure their luggage does not contain prohibited items.
Maiwada stressed the importance of good conduct both at home and abroad, warning that individuals found guilty of fraud or criminal conduct could face prosecution under both Nigerian and U.S. laws.
“The Nigeria Customs Service wishes to reaffirm that it is working closely with the U.S. Mission in Abuja to ensure Nigeria continues to meet all necessary criteria and avoid inclusion in any expanded visa restrictions that may affect legitimate travellers,” the statement concluded.
The NCS called on all intending U.S. travellers to be law-abiding, transparent in their declarations, and to use their visas strictly for the purposes stated in their applications, in order to protect the integrity of international travel and safeguard opportunities for other Nigerians.
