KADUNA, Nigeria – July 29, 2025 — Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has said that the nation’s security situation has significantly improved under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly in the northern region.
Ribadu made this known on Tuesday during a two-day interactive session organized by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation in Kaduna State. The session brought together prominent northern leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss the region’s development and security challenges.
According to the NSA, incidents of Boko Haram attacks, banditry, and communal violence have drastically reduced over the past two years when compared to the previous administration. He cited security data to support his claims, revealing that during the last government, Kaduna State recorded 1,192 deaths and over 3,348 kidnappings, while Benue State lost more than 5,000 lives to violence within the same period.
Ribadu, who is also the pioneer Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), attributed the improvement in security to President Tinubu’s directive for a unified and coordinated strategy among the nation’s security agencies.
“The successes we are witnessing are the result of deliberate and strategic efforts. President Tinubu gave a clear directive for a unified security approach, and the results are showing,” Ribadu stated.
He further disclosed that ongoing military operations in the North-West have led to the rescue of 11,259 hostages as of May 2025. Several high-profile bandit leaders and members of their gangs, particularly in Zamfara, Kaduna, and Katsina states, have been neutralized during these operations.
Ribadu also commended the Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, for embracing a non-kinetic approach to resolving conflicts in restive areas such as Southern Kaduna and Birnin Gwari.
“The Kaduna State Government’s non-kinetic measures have contributed to relative peace in previously volatile communities. We encourage more state-led initiatives like this,” he added.
The interactive forum continues on Wednesday with sessions focused on economic development, youth engagement, and long-term peacebuilding strategies in the North.
