SDP Kaduna Debunks Report of El-Rufai’s 30-Year Ban

The Kaduna State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has refuted a widely circulated report alleging that former governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has been expelled from the party for 30 years.

The report, which surfaced on several online platforms, claimed that El-Rufai had been sanctioned by the SDP, his alleged new political platform. However, the Kaduna State chapter of the party has dismissed the report as false, unauthorized, and a product of political mischief.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Kaduna State Publicity Secretary of the party, Hon. Darius Kurah, the party clarified that no such disciplinary action has been taken against El-Rufai, and the individual who made the claim, one Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, has no official standing within the party.

Kurah stressed that the only recognized National Publicity Secretary of the SDP is Ambassador Judith Shua’ibu, and any statement issued by Aiyenigba under that title is invalid.

“Therefore, any statement issued under Aiyenigba’s name in that capacity is null, unauthorized, and of no consequence,” the statement read.

The party emphasized that as a democratic institution, it operates strictly in line with its constitution, which outlines the process for both membership and disciplinary measures. According to Kurah, El-Rufai has not been subjected to any form of disciplinary action — whether at the ward level or by the National Working Committee (NWC).

The statement also dismissed allegations that El-Rufai is involved in anti-party activities or promoting other political parties, describing such claims as baseless and politically motivated.

“Mallam El-Rufai has consistently demonstrated a commitment to good governance and national development. He has not declared himself a member of the SDP in any official capacity, nor has he acted contrary to the provisions of our constitution,” the statement added.

The party further described the publication as a deliberate attempt to stir confusion and discredit El-Rufai, labeling it an act of “cheap propaganda” orchestrated by individuals with no constitutional role in the party.

Kurah concluded by affirming that El-Rufai has completed the necessary steps for membership, including ward registration, and warned the public to disregard any conflicting reports designed to mislead and politicize internal party affairs.
