In a bold move to celebrate local icons and national figures, the Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State has officially renamed the popular Charly Boy Bus Stop to Baddo Bus Stop, in honour of award-winning rapper Olamide Adedeji, popularly known as Baddo.
The announcement was made by the outgoing Chairman of the council, Hon. Kolade Alabi David, whose tenure ended on Friday. He described the renaming exercise as a deliberate effort to honour individuals who have put Bariga and Nigeria on the global map through their talents and impactful contributions.
“As an administration, we took our time to reflect on individuals who have elevated the name of our local council both locally and internationally,” Alabi said. “Today, we are officially renaming streets to celebrate their legacies.”
The bus stop renaming forms part of a wider initiative by the council to rename streets in recognition of cultural icons, political leaders, and prominent indigenes.
Other renamings include:
- Ilaje Road → King Sunny Ade Road
- Bariga Road → Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way
- Community Road, Akoka → Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Road
- Ajidagan Street → Olamide Adedeji (Baddo) Street
- Ifeanyi Street → Abolore Akande (9ice) Street
- Ayodele Street, Ladi-Lak → Tony Tetuila Street
- Ilojo Crescent, Obanikoro → Bukayo Saka Street
The move follows a similar development in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area, which recently renamed 24 streets in its domain.
Residents have received the changes with mixed reactions, but many commend the recognition of homegrown talents whose work has resonated far beyond the community.
