Mass Defection Rocks APC as Top Kogi Politicians Join PDP in Support of Senator Natasha

In a major political shake-up in Kogi State, scores of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), pledging allegiance to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The mass defection took place in Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area, where Senator Natasha formally received the defectors. Among them were prominent APC figures including former Okehi LG Chairman Hassan Yusuf, Special Adviser to the Council Chairman Hajia Rafatu Haruna, and APC stalwart Omuya Longman, along with their supporters.

Addressing the gathering, Senator Natasha reaffirmed her commitment to grassroots engagement, which she described as her core political strategy. She welcomed the new PDP members and praised their bold decision to align with a party she believes is poised for national relevance.

“We are not just building PDP in Kogi Central; we are building a political force that cannot be defeated in a free and fair election anywhere in Nigeria,” she said. “My responsibility is to strengthen the PDP and bring more people into our fold.”

The senator also emphasized the importance of political ideology, stating, “Nigeria’s democracy must evolve to the point where political parties are defined by their beliefs. When ideology is absent, parties resort to violence and intimidation.”

PDP State Chairman Enemona Anyebe hailed the wave of defections as a strong endorsement of Senator Natasha’s leadership and political vision, calling it a turning point for the PDP in Kogi State.

The development marks a significant gain for the PDP as it positions itself for the 2027 elections in the state and beyond.
