Veteran journalist and former presidential aspirant, Chief Dele Momodu, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that the party has fallen under the control of antidemocratic forces.
In a letter dated July 17, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward 4 Chairman in Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, Momodu announced his immediate departure from the party.
“My reason is clear and direct,” he wrote. “Our party has undeniably been seized by antidemocratic elements, both from within and without, in broad daylight.”
He further stated that it had become honorable to relinquish what remained of the party to these forces, while encouraging the majority of like-minded members to align with the emerging coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Chief Momodu, publisher of Ovation International and a prominent voice in Nigeria’s political and media spaces, joined the PDP in 2021 and had since been active in party affairs and national discourse. His exit marks another significant defection from the party amid a growing wave of internal discontent.
Expressing appreciation to the ward-level leadership for their support over the years, Momodu’s move to the ADC is seen as a major political shift in Edo State and adds fresh momentum to the ongoing realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
His resignation follows similar exits by other prominent figures, fueling speculation about the PDP’s internal cohesion and its preparedness for the electoral battles ahead.
