The All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a scathing attack on the newly formed opposition coalition, describing it as a gathering of “self-serving politicians” driven by vengeance and personal ambition.
In a strongly worded statement released on Thursday by APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party dismissed the adoption of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the coalition’s new platform, calling it an “unveiling of hoaxers” rather than a credible political force.
The statement comes a day after opposition leaders, including Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, and Rotimi Amaechi, officially adopted the ADC as the unified platform for their 2027 election efforts following a high-level meeting in Abuja on July 2.
Morka, however, scoffed at the announcement, declaring it a “gasping whimper, not the loud roar its promoters had touted.” He described the coalition as a “roll call of me-or-nothing politicians” whose primary goal is to return to power, not to serve Nigerians.
He particularly criticized former Senate President David Mark—recently named National Chairman of the ADC—accusing him of delivering a speech “vacant of substance or purpose” and filled with “regurgitated falsehoods” against President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“The coalition is nothing more than a loud declaration of desperation for power,” Morka said. “Why should Nigerians take seriously a group of egotistical maniacs for whom power and patronage are the oxygen on which their lives depend?”
The APC also challenged the opposition to present a clear ideological vision or policy alternatives, accusing them of being “clueless” and “blinded by ambition.”
In contrast, Morka highlighted what he described as Tinubu’s “transformative achievements” since assuming office, citing key economic reforms, increased external reserves, declining inflation, and major infrastructure development.
“From a GDP growth rate of 3.4% to a rise in external reserves from $4 billion in 2023 to over $24 billion in 2024, the administration has delivered significant gains,” he said. “We’ve cleared forex debt backlogs, implemented stable academic calendars, expanded access to student loans, and waged a successful war on terror with the arrest or neutralization of nearly 40,000 fighters.”
He added that the opposition’s refusal to acknowledge these reforms reveals a “wolfish thirst for power” rather than genuine concern for the nation.
As the countdown to the 2027 general elections begins, the battle lines appear to be sharply drawn, with the APC defending its record and accusing the opposition of offering nothing but recycled rhetoric and political bitterness.
