The Oduduwa Frontiers, a pan-Yoruba socio-political advocacy group, has risen in strong defense of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s midterm performance, describing recent criticisms by Afenifere as “misleading” and lacking in proper context.
In a statement signed by its National President, Kolawale Adediji Kazeem, the group dismissed Afenifere’s claims of regression in Nigeria’s development under the Tinubu administration as “unrealistic and uninformed.”
Expressing disappointment with what it termed a hasty and shallow critique, the Oduduwa Frontiers emphasized the importance of fair and contextual evaluation of governance, especially in light of the deep-rooted challenges inherited by the current administration.
“The assertion that every human development and sociopolitical index has regressed since the inception of this administration is not only misleading but also reflects a profound misunderstanding of the complexities facing our nation today,” Kazeem stated.
The group pointed to persistent economic instability, infrastructural decay, and widespread insecurity — issues it said were inherited from previous governments — as the key obstacles President Tinubu has been working to address through his Renewed Hope agenda.
According to Kazeem, Afenifere’s expectations of instant results ignore the reality of governance in a nation grappling with decades of mismanagement. He noted that Tinubu’s agenda was designed as a long-term reform framework, not a quick-fix solution.
“To hold President Tinubu accountable for the consequences of these long-standing issues is not only unfair but also undermines the very essence of responsible governance,” the group asserted.
The Oduduwa Frontiers also criticized Afenifere’s approach, accusing the influential Yoruba organization of abandoning constructive dialogue for sensationalism. It urged the group to return to its legacy of promoting informed and balanced political discourse.
“It is disheartening to see Afenifere, a group historically committed to the principles of democracy and good governance, join the ranks of those who hastily judge the Tinubu administration without acknowledging the broader context,” Kazeem added.
Highlighting ongoing initiatives in infrastructure, security enhancement, and economic diversification, the group acknowledged that while the results may not yet be fully visible, the foundation for sustainable development is being laid.
The group called for unity among stakeholders and urged critics to engage in collaborative nation-building rather than divisive commentary. It reiterated its commitment to promoting democratic dialogue and fostering understanding among Nigerians.
“As a nation, we must unite in our efforts to foster a democratic environment that promotes dialogue, understanding, and collaboration,” the statement concluded.
