The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed suggestions that the outcome of the recent Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections and bye-elections in Kano and Rivers states signals what to expect in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Tuesday during an appearance on Morning Brief, a programme on Channels Television, the party’s National Treasurer, Mani Ahmad, said it would be premature to draw conclusions about the ADC’s future electoral prospects based on the latest results.
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) won five of the six Area Councils in the FCT, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured victory in Gwagwalada Area Council. The APC also emerged victorious in the bye-elections conducted in Kano and Rivers states.
Reacting to the outcomes, Ahmad maintained that the results do not reflect the ADC’s preparedness or strength ahead of 2027.
“If anybody expects that the results of these elections in the FCT, Rivers and Kano would be our scorecard and that nothing will change in 2027, then they will be in for a big surprise,” he said.
He disclosed that the party is currently intensifying efforts to strengthen its internal structures, unify its leadership team, and craft a clear electoral strategy aimed at improving its performance in future contests.
According to him, the ADC and its members remain committed to repositioning the party for greater competitiveness in the next general election cycle.
The statement comes amid growing political realignments and early maneuverings ahead of the 2027 polls.
