The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that he and his political supporters possess the structure, influence, and strength to determine electoral outcomes in Rivers State and beyond.
Wike made the assertion on Monday during separate meetings with his supporters and political allies in Etche and Omuma Local Government Areas of Rivers State.
According to the former Rivers State governor, his political base played a decisive role in ensuring President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory in Rivers State during the 2023 general election. He said the outcome proved his capacity to mobilise voters and deliver results at the polls.
Wike further noted that the success recorded in 2023 went beyond the presidential election, stressing that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also won all elective positions in the National Assembly, the State House of Assembly, as well as the governorship seat in Rivers State.
“These victories clearly show what we are capable of doing politically,” the minister said, describing the results as a testament to the strength and loyalty of his political structure.
Speaking specifically on Rivers State politics, Wike urged his supporters in Omuma Local Government Area to take directives from the member representing Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Kelechi Nwogu.
“Listen to Kelechi,” Wike told the crowd. “Whatever he tells you, that is where I am.”
In his remarks, Nwogu warned that Omuma people would not support Governor Siminalayi Fubara should he seek a second term in office. He assured Wike that there was no cause for concern ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Go home and sleep. If the sitting governor is contesting election, Omuma will not support him,” Nwogu said.
The lawmaker also criticised what he described as ingratitude in politics, insisting that loyalty remains paramount.
“The worst person you can follow in your life is an ungrateful person. I can never be 001 ahead of my boss. Even if you give me that position, I will reject it,” he stated.
Nwogu further lamented what he called the ambition of political protégés seeking to overshadow their benefactors, describing it as “unfortunate.”
Addressing the wave of defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nwogu said defection itself was not the issue, but questioned the electoral value and political strength of those switching parties and publicly declaring support for President Tinubu.
He reaffirmed that the people of Omuma remain firmly aligned with Wike and President Tinubu.
Wike also visited Etche Local Government Area, where he reiterated that active political engagements ahead of the 2027 elections would formally begin in January.
