2027: PDP Should Micro-Zone Presidential Ticket to Southeast — Dan Ulasi

Former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dan Ulasi, has called on the party to demonstrate fairness by micro-zoning its 2027 presidential ticket to the Southeast.

Ulasi made the call on Friday while speaking on The Morning Show on Arise Television, stressing that the region remains the only part of the South yet to produce a president under the current democratic dispensation.

“The party has zoned the presidency to the South, and if there is honesty, they should micro-zone it to the Southeast because now, we are the only zone, theoretically speaking, that has not had a presidency in this dispensation — and the Northeast too,” he said.

When pressed about potential PDP candidates for 2027, Ulasi refused to make predictions, insisting that the future is in God’s hands.

“I’ll answer that question by telling you that only God will answer that question to say whether PDP will make the presidency in 2027. Only God knows who will be alive tomorrow morning,” he stated.

Despite internal challenges, Ulasi expressed optimism about the PDP’s future, pointing to renewed unity among party stakeholders.

“At the last national executive meeting, almost seven of our governors were there, and it was refreshing that everybody is now discussing how to reorganize the party, put it on stronger footing for 2027 and subsequent elections,” he added.

His remarks come amid ongoing efforts by PDP leaders to woo former President Goodluck Jonathan and Labour Party’s 2023 flagbearer, Peter Obi, to contest the 2027 presidency under the PDP banner.
