The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to accept the role of Vice Presidential candidate under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and support Mr. Peter Obi as the party’s Presidential flagbearer for the 2027 general elections.
OYC President, Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, made the appeal in a statement on Monday, insisting that an Obi–Atiku ticket is the only strategy capable of defeating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
According to Igboayaka, Peter Obi represents a fresh opportunity for “national rebirth” and has the capacity to rebuild Nigeria if elected. He argued that since the ADC National Chairman hails from the North, political equity demands that the party’s Presidential ticket be zoned to the South.
“Considering that Southern Nigeria is slated to complete its tenure in 2031, it has become imperative that the African Democratic Congress restrict its 2027 Presidential candidate to the South,” he said.
He further alleged that the Tinubu administration has failed to deliver on its promises and should be replaced by a leadership coalition capable of rescuing the country.
“For the sake of Nigeria’s rescue, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar should pay a national price by willingly deputizing former Labour Party Presidential Candidate Mr. Peter Obi in the 2027 Presidential Election,” Igboayaka stated.
The group also warned that it would resist any arrangement that further marginalizes the Igbo people as political calculations for 2027 intensify.
