2027: Nigeria Must Be Rescued From One-Man Dictatorship — Dele Momodu

0

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has called for urgent action to rescue Nigeria from what he described as a growing one-man dictatorship ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Momodu made the remarks on Thursday while speaking as a guest on The Morning Brief, a programme aired on Channels Television and monitored by DAILY POST.

According to the veteran journalist and politician, Nigeria’s current political direction demands the intervention of individuals with integrity who are willing to reject personal financial gains in favour of national interest.

“I’m happy that we still have a few people with good conscience who can say to hell with making cheap money in politics,” Momodu said.

He noted that personal enrichment was never his motivation in politics, adding that aligning with the ruling government would have been an easy path if money was his goal.

“If I wanted to make money in politics, I would be with President Bola Tinubu. I would be in the forefront, but that is not the issue,” he stated.

Momodu stressed that the country’s priority must be political rescue and institutional recovery before any meaningful development can take place.

“We need to save Nigeria from a one-man dictatorship. Nigeria needs to recover. It’s like taking a patient to the hospital. The doctors first rescue the patient, ensure recovery, reset what went wrong, and only then begin to talk about development projects. That is how politics should work,” he said.

His comments come amid increasing political alignments and debates ahead of the 2027 elections, with opposition figures positioning themselves around the themes of democracy, accountability, and national renewal.
