The Director of New Media and Strategic Communications of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Theo Abu Agada, has said Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, should be at the forefront of the campaign for the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general election.
Agada made the remarks on Saturday while commenting on Otti’s political relationship with Obi and his current stance on the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to him, Otti was one of the biggest beneficiaries of the political movement that emerged around Obi during the 2023 presidential election.
Obi and Otti contested the 2023 elections under the platform of the Labour Party (LP), with Obi seeking the presidency and Otti winning the Abia State governorship election.
Agada argued that Otti should now support Obi’s 2027 presidential ambition under the NDC, given the political support he received during the 2023 election.
“If we are being honest, Alex Otti should be at the forefront campaigning for and supporting the 2027 ambition of His Excellency, Mr Peter Obi under the NDC,” Agada said in a post on X.
He added that Otti “was the biggest beneficiary of Obi’s wave in 2023,” arguing that the Abia governor should reciprocate the support.
Agada also criticised Otti’s reported support for some of Tinubu’s economic policies, alleging that the governor’s position amounted to an endorsement of the President’s bid for a second term.
“By supporting Tinubu’s anti-people reforms, he is endorsing Tinubu for a second term,” he said.
Agada further described Otti as “an enemy of the Nigerian people,” a characterisation that reflects his own political criticism of the governor.
