ABUJA — A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Farouk Aliyu, has declared that President Bola Tinubu will retain the backing of the majority of northern voters in the 2027 general elections.
Aliyu made the assertion on Friday during an interview on Arise Television, where he dismissed speculations that opposition figures such as former President Goodluck Jonathan or ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar could pose a significant threat to Tinubu’s re-election bid.
“The majority of the people of the north will still vote for APC. And Tinubu will be our candidate. Whether Jonathan is coming in — is it going to be a threat to us? We respect Jonathan, we respect Atiku, we respect all Nigerian leaders. But I tell you, I have not seen anyone on the horizon that can compete with Tinubu as presently constituted,” Aliyu stated.
Addressing concerns about growing discontent in the North, the APC stalwart acknowledged that not every voter in the region may be satisfied with Tinubu’s leadership but insisted that the ruling party maintains majority support.
He further emphasized that the fate of governance rests in the hands of ordinary Nigerians, not political elites.
“Ultimately, governance is determined by Nigerians themselves, not by the political class,” he added.
