The Senator representing Jigawa State North West, Babangida Hussaini Adamu, has firmly denied claims that he is nursing a governorship ambition ahead of the 2027 elections, describing the reports as false and deliberately misleading.
In a statement personally signed by the senator and issued to journalists in Dutse, Adamu dismissed the speculation as baseless and mischievous, alleging that it was deliberately crafted to sow discord within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He expressed concern over what he termed a growing trend of unfounded narratives being pushed on radio platforms, warning that such claims are capable of misleading the public and creating unnecessary political tension in the state.
“These claims are entirely false and are clearly intended to create unnecessary tension, division and mischief within our great party, the APC,” the statement read.
The senator emphasized that he and the Governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar Namadi, remain loyal and committed members of the APC, working together in unity and mutual respect for the progress of the state.
His reaction followed recent comments allegedly made by a radio personality, Magaji Dogo, who claimed that Senator Adamu was planning to contest the governorship. The claims were further fueled by the circulation of campaign-style T-shirts and caps bearing the images of both the senator and Governor Namadi, an action Adamu said was aimed at falsely linking him to the rumoured ambition.
Senator Adamu reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his full support for the Jigawa State Government under Governor Namadi, stressing that his priority remains contributing to the success of the party and the development of the state.
He called on the leadership of the APC to take decisive steps to address and curb the spread of misleading narratives that could undermine party unity and discipline. The senator also urged party members and the general public to disregard the rumours and remain focused on strengthening the APC while advancing the socio-economic development of Jigawa State and Nigeria as a whole.
