“2027 Is a Battle for Nigeria’s Soul” – Aisha Yesufu Warns

Human rights activist and co-convener of the Bring Back Our Girls movement, Aisha Yesufu, has described the upcoming 2027 general elections as a critical battle that will determine the future of Nigeria.

Speaking during a live interview on Channels Television on Thursday, Yesufu said the election would be more than a routine political exercise, stressing that Nigerians must see it as a decisive moment for the country’s survival and direction.

According to her, the 2027 polls represent a fight for the soul of the nation, noting that citizens can no longer afford to remain passive while political actors continue with what she described as reckless governance.

“As we go into 2027, let me tell you, it’s a war we are going into. Yes, it’s a war; we are fighting for our lives,” she said during the interview monitored by DAILY POST.

Yesufu argued that Nigerians are increasingly frustrated with the state of governance and are determined to challenge what she described as a culture of impunity in the political system.

She also criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), alleging that the party has failed to demonstrate the credibility required to deliver good governance.

“APC has not shown that it is a party with the credibility to do the right thing. It has always behaved in an ‘any-howness’ kind of manner,” she said.

Despite the challenges she anticipates in the build-up to the elections, the activist expressed confidence that Nigerians are becoming more politically conscious and ready to demand accountability from their leaders.

Nigeria is expected to hold its next general elections in 2027, with political actors already positioning themselves ahead of the contest.
