A former vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has said defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections will require decisive action and mass resistance, not reliance on the courts.
Baba-Ahmed made the remarks in a video shared on X by user @Dejii, where he criticised Nigeria’s electoral and judicial systems and alleged that the Constitution was breached during the 2023 presidential election.
According to the Kaduna-born politician, legal action alone cannot overturn what he described as a flawed electoral process.
“I told Peter Obi, the Supreme Court cannot give you governor and give you presidency. For God’s sake, stand up and do something. The Nigerian Constitution was clearly breached,” he said.
Drawing parallels with the June 12 struggle, Baba-Ahmed noted that past political actors aggressively defended their mandates and mobilised Nigerians over long periods to challenge injustice, rather than depending solely on judicial outcomes.
While expressing displeasure over what he described as constitutional abuse, he acknowledged that those currently in power are highly organised and effective at protecting their interests.
The Labour Party chieftain warned that any opposition seeking to unseat Tinubu in 2027 must be ready to confront the system head-on.
“You must show your red eyes if you’re going to defeat Tinubu, because on the day they are declaring the result, the people declaring a fake result are criminals, and those stopping the declaration of fake results are good citizens,” he added.
