Abuja – The factional Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Caretaker Committee, Abdulrahman Mohammed, has described 2025 as one of the most challenging years in the party’s history, marked by internal crises and institutional battles.
Mohammed stated that the year served as a “testing and refining period” for the PDP, stressing that internal disagreements and the actions of some senior members who abandoned due process exposed the party to serious legal and structural challenges.
He made this known on Monday while delivering his welcome address at the 105th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party held in Abuja.
According to him, despite the turbulence, party leaders chose to uphold the rule of law and constitutional order rather than personal ambition.
“Members of this committee and leaders across the party stood firm in the face of severe trials and provocations,” Mohammed said. “You chose the difficult but honourable path of legality, constitutionalism, and institutional discipline.”
He noted that although the internal disputes subjected the PDP to judicial scrutiny, the party did not collapse but emerged stronger.
Mohammed pointed to the recent judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, which nullified the Ibadan Convention, as a major turning point that provided legal clarity and restored institutional credibility to the party.
“The judgment has conferred existential credibility on our great party as presently constituted,” he said, adding that the current leadership under his chairmanship and Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary was legally affirmed.
He concluded that the PDP’s survival through the 2025 crisis demonstrated its resilience as a political institution and expressed optimism that 2026 would mark a new era of unity and progress for the party.
