Goodluck-Jonathan-Endorses-Diri-For-Second-Term

In the forthcoming gubernatorial election on Saturday, former president Goodluck Jonathan has endorsed Bayelsa State Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Douye Diri for a second term.

Jonathan says that due to the state’s stability, Diri ought to be encouraged to serve a second term. He made this claim in a statement to Governor Daniel Alabrah that was made public on Tuesday by the Chief Press Secretary.

Alabrah reported that Jonathan had spoken during a visit to his Yenagoa home by representatives of the PDP Bayelsa National Governorship Campaign Council, governors, past governors of the party, members of the National Assembly, and other interested parties.

He said, “I have been in touch with our governor, and I believe he should be encouraged to do his eight years. He has been able to stabilise the state.

“Let us find a standard way of doing things. We cannot kill ourselves; we do not want a crisis. I thank you all for what you are doing. While we struggle for leadership, we must have a country.”

To attend Diri’s campaign rally for reelection, which was the grand finale, the party officials travelled to the state, while the former president claimed to be aware of Diri’s whereabouts and actions within the state.

He said that under Diri, Bayelsa has achieved strides in the fields of infrastructure development and security.

Jonathan expressed his happiness that important players, like former governor Seriake Dickson and former Niger Delta Development Commission managing director Ndutimi Alaibe, were participating in party events, emphasizing that this shows the PDP’s unity.

He reiterated the necessity of a nonviolent election in Bayelsa, stressing that politics should be a tool to serve the people rather than a game of make-or-break situation.
