1,500+ PDP Members Decamp to APC in Kebbi

More than 1,500 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Zuru Emirate have dumped the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kebbi State.

The defectors were formally received on Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi by the state APC chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kana-Zuru, who hailed the mass movement as a validation of the state government’s performance.

Kana-Zuru noted that key infrastructural projects—particularly the construction of the Koko–Dabai–Zuru road—had strengthened public confidence in the administration. He assured the new entrants that they would enjoy equal treatment within the party.

Among the defectors was Alhaji Lawali Riba, a former PDP House of Assembly candidate, who said the decision was influenced by recent developments in the state, including the coordinated rescue of abducted students of Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga.

Another defector, Arzika Riba, faulted some government aides for what he termed slow performance, urging them to step up their duties despite the administration’s progress.

Also speaking, two female defectors from Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area, Binta Bena and Hajiya Maryam, declared that the PDP had lost significant ground in their area, prompting their switch to the ruling APC.
