With the UEFA Champions League group stage set to kick off next week, football data giant Opta has released its latest supercomputer predictions — and Liverpool lead the pack as the strongest contenders for Europe’s most coveted club trophy.
The Reds have been handed a 20.4% chance of lifting the Champions League this season, making them the clear frontrunners. Fellow Premier League side Arsenal trail closely behind as the second favourites.
Reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain sit in third with a 12.1% chance of defending their crown, while Manchester City and Barcelona follow with 8.4% each.
Chelsea, with a 7% chance, rank ahead of record 14-time winners Real Madrid, who are placed seventh with 5.8%.
Completing the top 10 favourites are Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, and Newcastle United — each given a 5% chance of going all the way.
The predictions set the stage for what promises to be another electrifying season of European football, as giants of the game prepare to battle for continental supremacy.
