Team Nigeria’s Kanyinsola Ajayi and Favour Ashe put up a below par showing in the semi-final of the men’s 100m on Sunday.
Ajayi caught the eye with his impressive performance in the heat on Saturday but failed to live up to expectations in the semi-final.
The debutant finished in a disappointing sixth position in the second semi-final.
South Africa’s Akani Simbine won the race in a time of 9.87s, while Letsile Tebogo of Botswana placed second in a time of 9.91s.
Ashe, who was also competing at the Olympics for the first time finished in sixth position in the semi-final.
The race was won by Jamaica’s Oblique Seville in a time of 9.81s, while world champions Noah Lyles finished second in 9.83s.
