Nwabali Doubtful for Nigeria’s Crucial World Cup Qualifiers

Nigeria may face a major setback ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying clashes, as first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali is now doubtful due to injury.

The Chippa United shot-stopper was stretchered off in the 35th minute of his club’s South African Premier Soccer League match against Richards Bay on Tuesday night, raising concerns over his availability for the Super Eagles.

Nwabali, 29, was included in Nigeria’s 31-man provisional squad released last week, but his fitness remains uncertain as he battles to recover in time for the encounters against Rwanda and South Africa.

His absence would leave the Super Eagles relying on Adebayo Adeleye, Amas Obasogie, and Ebenezer Harcourt, the other goalkeepers named in the squad.

Nigeria are scheduled to take on Rwanda on September 6 before facing South Africa on September 10 in what are expected to be decisive fixtures in the race to the 2026 World Cup.
