Manchester United have announced ambitious plans to construct a state-of-the-art 100,000-capacity stadium, with co-owner Jim Ratcliffe vowing to create the “world’s greatest” football ground.
The Premier League giants had been weighing options between renovating their historic Old Trafford home or building a new stadium within the same vicinity. On Tuesday, the club confirmed their commitment to pursuing a brand-new, world-class venue as the centrepiece of a major regeneration project in the Old Trafford area.
Unveiled at the London headquarters of Foster + Partners—the renowned architects appointed in September to lead the project—scaled models and conceptual images offered a glimpse into the club’s vision for the stadium district.
“Today marks the start of an incredibly exciting journey to the delivery of what will be the world’s greatest football stadium, at the centre of a regenerated Old Trafford,” Ratcliffe stated.
He acknowledged Old Trafford’s rich 115-year history but emphasized the need for modernization, saying, “Our current stadium has served us brilliantly, but it has fallen behind the best arenas in world sport.”
Manchester United’s bold redevelopment aligns with the UK government’s growth agenda, positioning the club at the forefront of a transformative project set to redefine the future of football infrastructure.
