Lille OSC President Olivier Létang has disclosed that the club earned a mere €7 million from Victor Osimhen’s highly publicized transfer to Napoli in 2020. The deal, originally valued at over €70 million, is now under scrutiny due to questions surrounding its structure and true value.
Osimhen, a star striker for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, moved to the Serie A club in a deal that included cash and four Napoli players, who were collectively valued at €20 million. However, none of these players ever featured for Lille, leading to speculation about their actual worth.
“The net amount, considering the player’s purchase, the valuation of four players who were worth nothing, intermediaries, and commissions, was €7 million, more or less,” Létang revealed during an interview with L’Equipe TV.
The transfer is currently being investigated by authorities in Italy and France, although Napoli has been cleared of any wrongdoing. This revelation raises further concerns about financial transparency in football, particularly in high-profile deals involving intermediaries and inflated player valuations.
As investigations continue, the Osimhen transfer saga remains a focal point in the ongoing debate over football’s financial ethics.
