LONDON — Chelsea are preparing for a frantic finish to the summer transfer window, with as many as 13 deals expected to be completed before the market closes on September 1, according to the BBC.
The Blues are eyeing ambitious swoops for RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons and Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho. However, any deal for the pair would hinge on the departures of Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku, who could be sacrificed to free up space in the squad.
Academy product Tyrique George has also been cleared to leave, either on loan or a permanent transfer, while young defender Aaron Anselmino is attracting interest from Borussia Dortmund over a potential loan switch.
Meanwhile, a number of first-team players have been placed in what is now being dubbed Chelsea’s “bomb squad.” The list includes Raheem Sterling, Alex Matos, Alfie Gilchrist, Ben Chilwell, Axel Disasi and David Datro Fofana — all of whom are available for sale before the window shuts.
In total, Chelsea are aiming to finalize 13 transfers — a mix of signings, sales and loans — in the 12 days left of the window, as the club looks to reshape its squad under continued pressure to deliver results.
