Trevor Francis, the first British footballer to earn a million pounds, died at the age of 69. ‘Trevor Francis has died at the age of 69,’ his family said in a statement to ITV today.
‘He had a heart attack this morning at his apartment in Spain.
This has come as a tremendous shock to everyone in the family. We are all quite upset. He was a fantastic footballer, but he was also a wonderful person.’
Francis was a dangerous attacker in his day, winning the European Cup twice with Nottingham Forest after rising to prominence with Birmingham City.
Francis, who spoke to Mail Sport in 2019 in a wide-ranging, emotional, and intriguing interview, went into management after his playing career, most notably with Sheffield Wednesday, before working in broadcasting for more than two decades.
