Amorim Admits Moyes Outshining Him in Premier League Comeback Battle

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has openly admitted that Everton manager David Moyes is doing a better job reviving his side than he has at Old Trafford.

Ahead of United’s crucial clash with Everton on Saturday — the final meeting between the clubs at Goodison Park before the Toffees move to a new stadium — Amorim praised Moyes for turning Everton’s season around.

“Simple thing. David Moyes is doing a better job than me. It’s quite simple,” Amorim confessed.

Since taking over United in November, Amorim has managed only four wins and eight losses in the Premier League, while Moyes, who returned to Everton in January, has already matched that win tally in just six games.

Everton currently sit 14th in the table, one spot above 15th-placed United, highlighting the stark contrast in fortunes between the two clubs since their managerial changes.

Amorim acknowledged the difference in pressure between the two jobs but emphasized Moyes’ impact. “Small things like winning one game, then another, build belief. The pressure isn’t the same, but credit to Everton’s players and especially Moyes. We need to do the same.”

Moyes was sacked by United in 2014 after less than a season in charge. A loss for United this weekend could increase calls for Amorim’s dismissal, with reports suggesting some players remain unconvinced by his methods.

However, Amorim remains defiant. “If they are not convinced, I don’t feel that in training. It’s my job to change their minds, and I’m quite good at that.”

The Portuguese manager also expressed no regrets over joining United mid-season rather than waiting until summer. “It’s Manchester United. You can’t say no. I knew it would be tough, but once you make a decision, you go all the way — even if it’s frustrating at times.”

The pressure is mounting, and Saturday’s showdown at Goodison Park could prove pivotal for Amorim’s future at Old Trafford.
