The Chairman of the North-Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will secure a second term in the 2027 presidential election, asserting that no external force or “magic” can prevent the APC from retaining power.
In a statement released on Friday, 3rd January 2025, Zazzaga responded to remarks made by Kano State’s New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Chairman, Hashimu Suleiman Dungurawa, who warned that Tinubu would face defeat in the upcoming election due to his administration’s “anti-people” policies.
Dungurawa, speaking in Kano on 2nd January 2025, argued that Tinubu’s harsh economic measures, including the removal of the fuel subsidy and the devaluation of the Naira, would lead to his ousting in 2027. He further predicted that NNPP’s national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, would emerge victorious.
However, Zazzaga strongly countered these claims, stating that Tinubu’s bold economic reforms were essential to the country’s long-term stability and growth. He emphasized that the President’s policies—such as the subsidy removal and Naira flotation—had already started to yield positive results, including a strengthened Naira, increased oil production, and a rise in foreign reserves.
Zazzaga highlighted that while the benefits of these reforms might not be immediately apparent, Nigerians would begin to feel their positive impact as the economy continues to improve. He praised Tinubu for taking necessary decisions that previous administrations had been unwilling to make.
“The bold decisions taken by President Tinubu, such as the removal of the fuel subsidy and floating the Naira, are vital steps for the country’s development,” said Zazzaga. “By the time the next election comes, Nigeria’s economy will have been fully repositioned, and Nigerians will have no choice but to re-elect President Tinubu for a second term.”
Zazzaga also pointed out that Tinubu’s proposed tax reforms would benefit the common people and stimulate small businesses. The North-Central APC Forum, after assessing the President’s achievements in various sectors—including security, infrastructure, and economic development—has officially endorsed his bid for a second term.
“The North-Central APC Forum believes President Tinubu deserves another term based on his performance, particularly in providing security and infrastructure,” Zazzaga stated. “No other President has brought as many opportunities to the North-Central region as President Tinubu.”
On the issue of security, Zazzaga noted that under Tinubu’s leadership, the North-Central had seen a marked reduction in insecurity, particularly benefiting the region’s farming communities. He commended the President for empowering security forces to restore peace, allowing farmers to safely work their land.
As the 2027 election approaches, Zazzaga reiterated that the North-Central APC Forum would mobilize its support for Tinubu’s re-election, just as it did in the 2023 election.
Zazzaga’s comments come as the political landscape intensifies ahead of the 2027 polls, with various factions and parties positioning themselves for the upcoming contest. Despite the challenges, Zazzaga’s statement underscores the APC’s optimism in retaining the presidency under President Tinubu’s leadership.
