U.S. Intelligence Warns of Russian Nuclear Space Weapon Development

0

A newly declassified U.S. intelligence report has revealed that Russia is developing a satellite designed to carry a nuclear weapon, a move that could have “devastating consequences” for the United States and the world.

The disclosure was made by U.S. Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, during her Congressional testimony on the Annual Threat Assessment of the U.S. Intelligence Community.

According to the report, Russia’s nuclear and conventional military advancements, coupled with its economic and military resilience, position it as a formidable global competitor. It further states that Moscow now possesses the world’s largest nuclear arsenal, increasing the risk of catastrophic damage in the event of a major conflict.

“Russia is actively developing new capabilities, including anti-satellite weapons designed to degrade U.S. and allied space infrastructure,” the report warns. “Among the most alarming developments is a satellite intended to carry a nuclear weapon, violating longstanding international treaties and threatening global security.”

Beyond its military expansion, the report also highlights Russia’s growing cyber warfare capabilities. It links Moscow to multiple high-profile cyberattacks, including the 2023 Microsoft hack, and warns that Russian cyber operatives have infiltrated U.S. critical infrastructure, posing a persistent asymmetric threat.

The findings have raised serious concerns among U.S. defense officials and lawmakers, as the prospect of nuclear weapons in space could escalate geopolitical tensions and undermine global stability.
