President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is currently hosting Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, at the State House in Abuja. The meeting is also attended by prominent Ogoniland leaders from four local government areas in the state.

Although the agenda of the meeting has not been officially disclosed, it is believed to address the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, which has persisted since late 2023. Sources suggest the discussions may focus on resolving the power struggle between Governor Fubara and Minister Wike, who have been embroiled in a protracted supremacy battle.

Among the Ogoniland leaders present at the meeting are Senators Lee Maeba, Magnus Abe, Olaka Nwogu, Barry Mpigi, and Bennett Birabi; Victor Giadom; Kenneth Kobani; Monsignor Pius Kii; Leedom Mitee; and Professor B. Fakae.

Key government officials in attendance include National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, Minister of Information and National Orientation Idris Mohammed, Minister of Regional Development Abubakar Momoh, Minister of Environment Balarabe Abbas, and the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari.

The meeting underscores the federal government’s commitment to fostering peace and addressing issues of political instability in Rivers State and the Niger Delta region. Further details are expected to emerge following the discussions.
