The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has announced that all three senators from Kebbi State currently elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are preparing to defect to the ruling APC.
Ganduje made this known while addressing State House correspondents following a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Friday. He was accompanied by Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, and the three senators in question — Adamu Aliero, Yahaya Abdullahi, and Garba Maidoki.
According to Ganduje, extensive consultations among political stakeholders in Kebbi culminated in a unanimous decision for the senators to cross over to the APC.
“This is a good development and aligns with the political trend we’re witnessing across Nigeria,” Ganduje said. “Almost every week, members of opposition parties in both the Senate and House of Representatives are decamping to the APC.”
He noted that President Tinubu has given his full blessing to the decision and hinted that the formal defection would occur in the Senate on Tuesday.
Dismissing concerns about Nigeria sliding into a one-party state, Ganduje argued that such fears were misplaced.
“We’re not advocating for a one-party system, but if that becomes the will of Nigerians, who are we to resist it?” he said. “Too many political parties can disrupt governance. We believe in strengthening our party not just in numbers, but in quality and capacity.”
Ganduje also emphasized that the move reflects the ongoing efforts by President Tinubu and the APC to solidify democratic processes while expanding the party’s reach and influence nationwide.
