Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo on Saturday emerged as the unopposed winner of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship primary held in Awka, securing his place as the party’s flag bearer for the upcoming November 8 election in Anambra State.

The primary election, which took place at Dr Alex Ekwueme Square under tight security and the supervision of officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), saw a massive turnout of delegates and concluded with a unanimous vote in Soludo’s favour.

Chairman of the APGA Primary Election Committee, Chief Uchenna Nwegbo, who also served as the chief returning officer, announced the results, describing the process as transparent and compliant with the Electoral Act 2022.

“Out of the 3,260 total delegates, 3,175 were accredited. A total of 3,172 votes were cast, with 3,168 valid ‘Yes’ votes in favour of Governor Soludo and four invalid ballots. There were no ‘No’ votes,” Nwegbo stated while presenting Soludo with the party’s nomination certificate.

He added that the unanimous endorsement followed all INEC guidelines and APGA’s internal processes, affirming Soludo as the party’s sole candidate for the governorship race.

Reacting to the declaration, Soludo expressed deep gratitude to party members, delegates, and the people of Anambra for their overwhelming support and trust.

“Never before in Anambra’s history has there been such a wide consensus. I am truly humbled,” he said. “I assure you that I will not let APGA and the good people of Anambra down.”

He praised the party leadership for a seamless and well-organized primary and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering transformative governance.

“We will continue to deepen our vision—driving infrastructure development, investing in human capital, ensuring security, and promoting economic transformation. Anambra has not seen anything yet. The progress will continue—unbroken,” he declared.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) also reports that Governor Soludo has retained Dr Onyekachi Ibezim as his running mate for the forthcoming election.

Soludo, a former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, is seeking re-election after his first term, which began in March 2022.
