Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has intensified his criticism of Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, following remarks made by El-Rufai about the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and its internal issues.
In his latest comments, Sani claimed that if El-Rufai had been appointed to a position in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, the opposition would have faced harsh repercussions. He accused the former governor of possessing “undisguised intolerance to opposition” and a “hypersensitive allergy to criticisms.”
Sani’s remarks were made in response to El-Rufai’s statements during a recent event in Abuja, where the ex-governor expressed disillusionment with the APC. El-Rufai stated that he no longer recognized the party due to its failure to adhere to internal democratic principles. He also noted that key APC bodies, such as the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Caucus, had not convened in the past two years, accusing the party of deviating from its foundational ideals.
Dismissing El-Rufai’s comments, Sani asserted that the former governor lacked the moral standing to offer guidance on governance. In a post on social media platform X, Sani wrote: “The man with a history of undisguised intolerance to opposition and hypersensitive allergy to criticisms has no moral and saintly feet to stand on the pulpit of democracy to preach about good governance.”
Sani went on to criticize El-Rufai’s legacy in Kaduna, accusing him of mismanagement and corruption, including leaving the state in a pile of debt and using religion to sow division. He also pointed to El-Rufai’s alleged practices of enriching friends and family, disregarding court orders, persecuting journalists, and using social media to silence critics.
“His administration in Kaduna was marked by looting, nepotism, and authoritarianism,” Sani added. “Now, this man is trying to lecture others on governance.”
Sani further claimed that if El-Rufai had been integrated into Tinubu’s government, critics of the administration in both the North and South would have faced significant repression. He also remarked on El-Rufai’s current political status, describing him as frustrated and increasingly seeking public platforms where he could promote sectional sentiments.
El-Rufai, who left office as Kaduna State governor in 2023, has yet to respond to Sani’s latest criticism.
