Segun Sowunmi: “Tinubu is Nigeria’s First Real Politician to Become President”

In a bold statement, Segun Sowunmi, former spokesperson for ex-Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Nigeria’s first “real politician” to assume the presidency. Speaking during an interview on TVC News, Sowunmi highlighted the challenges the opposition faces under Tinubu’s leadership, describing him as a formidable force in Nigeria’s democratic landscape.

According to Sowunmi, Tinubu’s rise to power contrasts sharply with those of his predecessors. He asserted that former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Muhammadu Buhari were more aligned with their military backgrounds than with political maneuvering, while Goodluck Jonathan ascended to power under unique circumstances, describing his tenure as “the product of others’ misfortune.”

“Tinubu is a seasoned politician who has risen through the ranks to become president. This distinguishes him from Obasanjo and Buhari, who were soldiers, and Jonathan, whose presidency was circumstantial,” Sowunmi said.

He also acknowledged the uphill task facing the opposition, noting that Tinubu’s adeptness in political strategy and governance has set a high bar.

“As the opposition, we have our work cut out for us. We must bring quality minds together to analyze and counterbalance the administration in this evolving democratic era,” Sowunmi added.

The remarks have sparked debates across political circles, underscoring Tinubu’s impact on Nigeria’s political arena and the evolving role of opposition parties in the country.
