SDP Kogi Chairman Dismisses Planned Congress as Illegal

The Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kogi State, Moses Peter Oricha, has called on the public, security agencies, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disregard a planned congress being organized by individuals he described as “ghost members” of the party.

In a statement issued on Monday evening, Oricha denounced the proposed congress, scheduled for Wednesday, March 12, 2025, as illegitimate, labeling it a plot by faceless individuals working to destabilize the party.

“It has come to my notice that some ghost individuals claiming to be SDP members in Kogi State are planning to organize a state congress this Wednesday. This is not only laughable but also criminal in a modern democratic setting,” Oricha stated.

He accused the unidentified organizers of acting under the influence of external forces aiming to create chaos within the party. He assured party loyalists that the purported congress holds no legitimacy and will not be recognized.

The SDP chairman confirmed that he had officially notified INEC, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Kogi State Police Command, urging them to disregard and halt the planned congress.

“As the authentic chairman of SDP in Kogi State, we will not allow intruders to destroy the party we have built over the years. This congress is null and void,” Oricha affirmed.

He further emphasized that the party’s last valid congress was held on April 9, 2022, and remains legally binding under the SDP constitution. Any attempt to hold another congress before April 2026, he stressed, is against party regulations.

Oricha urged SDP supporters to remain steadfast and ignore what he described as an attempt by “disgruntled elements” to mislead the public. He also called on security agencies to remain vigilant and prevent any unlawful political activities.

“As far as the SDP is concerned, no congress is scheduled for this week or this year. Our constitution is clear—our next congress will be in April 2026,” he reiterated.
