Rivers Crisis: APC’s Tony Cole Reacts to Tinubu’s State of Emergency Declaration

0

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in the 2023 Rivers State election, Tony Cole, has weighed in on President Bola Tinubu’s decision to declare a state of emergency in the state.

Speaking on Channels Television, Cole asserted that the declaration should necessitate the resignation of all political officeholders from Rivers State, both at the federal and state levels.

President Tinubu, in a nationwide broadcast on Tuesday, expressed deep concern over the ongoing political crisis in Rivers, accusing Governor Siminalayi Fubara of demolishing the State House of Assembly complex. As a result, he announced the emergency declaration, set to take effect from March 18.

Cole acknowledged the gravity of the situation and the tough decisions facing both the president and Governor Fubara. However, he stressed that meaningful political steps must be taken to resolve the crisis, warning that failure to do so would only prolong the conflict.

“A very hard decision has to be made by the president on the political side,” Cole stated, emphasizing the urgent need for decisive action.
