The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Tony Okocha, has attributed the ongoing political crisis in the state to the judiciary.
Speaking at a press conference in Port Harcourt, Okocha criticized former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, over his recent comments regarding President Bola Tinubu’s tenure.
Amaechi had previously stated that Nigerian politicians seek to retain power at all costs, suggesting that Tinubu would not step down in 2027.
“If you think Tinubu will give it to you, you’re wasting your time,” Amaechi had said.
In response, Okocha accused the former minister of attempting to incite public unrest and promote anarchy. He also criticized Amaechi’s tenure as minister, claiming he failed to bring significant developmental projects to the South-South region.
Okocha further alleged that the judiciary had contributed to the political instability in Rivers State by making contradictory rulings on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) congresses, despite previous decisions by superior courts.
“The judiciary is the problem behind the political crisis in Rivers State. Judges make pronouncements on PDP congresses even when a superior court ruled otherwise,” Okocha stated.
The political climate in Rivers State has remained tense in recent months, with ongoing disputes among key political stakeholders.
