Rhodes-Vivour Accuses DSS of Attempting to Force Lagos Assembly Speaker to Resign

0

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the Labour Party’s 2023 Lagos governorship candidate, has accused the Department of State Services (DSS) of attempting to force the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, to step aside. This allegation follows the DSS’s controversial invasion of the Assembly on Monday, which occurred amid a leadership crisis.

The disruption came after Meranda’s recent replacement of Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker, following Obasa’s impeachment by lawmakers while he was abroad. Obasa, upon his return, disputed the impeachment, claiming that due process had not been followed.

Appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Rhodes-Vivour condemned the use of DSS operatives to intimidate the Speaker, describing the event as a major setback for Lagos politics. He emphasized that lawmakers should prioritize loyalty to their constituents, not to political godfathers.
